Leesburg, VA. (January 17, 2023) – Loudoun United FC announced today the acquisition of Canadian Kwame Awuah.
“Kwame [Awuah] is a proven winner at every club he has been at,” Ryan Martin, Loudoun United FC Head Coach, said. “He is dangerous going forward so he can play central midfield or left back with his quality. With his experience playing in multiple leagues including the CONCACAF Champions League, he will be a huge asset to our young squad.”
Kwame Awuah joined St. Louis CITY2 as a defender ahead of the inaugural 2022 MLS Next Pro season, following stints at various clubs including the Major League Soccer (MLS) team New York City FC.
The Toronto-native played for various youth teams before making the switch to the University of Connecticut men’s soccer team in 2013. In 2015, Awuah signed with his youth club, Sigma FC and was named to the League 1 Ontario Western Conference All-Star Team in 2016.
Awuah was drafted 16th overall by New York City FC in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He spent two seasons with New York City FC, appearing in 10 matches before signing for Canadian Premier League (CPL) club Forge FC. Awuah helped Forge FC to two CPL championships, the first one in 2019 and 2020. With over 80 appearances for the Canadian club, Awuah recorded three goals and ten assists.
