
Leesburg, VA. (June 5, 2024) – Loudoun United FC today announced that the club has signed Surafel Dagnachew Mengestu to a two-year contract, with an option for the 2026 season, pending league and federal approval.
The midfielder has signed for Loudoun from Fasil Kenema in the Ethiopian Premier League. Mengestu signed with the Ethiopian side in 2018.
Mengestu has additionally represented Ethiopia on the national level. The midfielder has recorded three goals in 24 matches for the Ethiopian National team.
In 2019, the twenty-six-year-old was named the Ethiopian Football Federation Player of the Year. Mengestu recorded seven goals in 92 appearances with Fasil Kenema over six seasons.
“Surafel is a very good attacking midfielder who comes in with tremendous Ethiopian National Team experience and has played in some massive competitions, “said Head Coach Ryan Martin. “He is a very good connector of the game and we are excited to have him join us.”
