Leesburg, VA. (June 28, 2024) – Loudoun United FC today announced that the club has signed standout midfielder Isaiah Johnston to a two-year contract with options for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, pending league and federation approval.
The Ontario-native was drafted 10th overall by York9 FC in the First Round of the CPL-U Sports Draft. Johnston spent the last season and a half competing with Huntsville City FC in the MLS Next Pro, playing 33 matches across all competitions.
“We are excited to add Isaiah to our group and push for the playoffs this season,” said Head Coach Ryan Martin. “He has had success in the Canadian Premier League and MLS Next Pro, along with having trained with Nashville SC in the MLS. Physically, he covers a lot of ground and is very good at winning duels centrally. He has the mindset of a winning competitor and will fit into the team seamlessly.”
Before his professional career, Johnston attended Cape Breton University in the fall of 2019. The midfielder won a bronze medal at the national championships with Cape Breton and was named the AUS Rookie of the Year, along with making the All-Rookie team.
Johnston’s first professional contract was signed in July 2020. Following a strong 2021 season, Johnstone was rated the 27th best player in the Canadian Premier League, leading to a contract extension with York United in November 2021. Johnston was transferred to Huntsville City FC in December 2022, becoming the club’s first ever signing. He made his debut with the MLS Next Pro side on March 26, 2022.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Johnston spent his youth years playing for Milton YSC. During his time with Milton, he made his international debut with the Canadian U15 Select squad in 2016. In 2017, Johnston was named to the U18 Team Ontario for the 2017 Canada Summer Games.
