Loudoun United Football Club set to host Virginia Dream FC at Segra Field in 2nd Round of 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup
Leesburg, VA (March 21st, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club (LUFC) will host USASA side Virginia Dream FC for the 2nd Round of the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match will take place on Wednesday, April 2nd at 6:30 p.m. ET at Segra Field in Leesburg, VA.
Virginia Dream FC, founded in 2022 and based out of Falls Church, VA, competes in the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). Virginia Dream FC defeated Aegean Hawks to qualify for their first-ever U.S. Open Cup. Virginia Dream FC then travelled to Richmond and defeated USL League One side, Richmond Kickers in the first round. The winner of this match will move on to the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup which will take place in mid-April (date, opponent, location will be determined later).
Loudoun United Football Club is 2-0-0 in USL Championship league play thus far in 2025 with a season opener 3-1 win against Birmingham Legion FC on March 8th and a 2-1 comeback win against North Carolina FC on March 15th. The Red-and-White secured their spot in the 2nd round of the U.S. Open Cup following a 3-2 victory over West Chester United SC on March 18th, 2025.

About the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is U.S. Soccer’s Club Championship and has crowned a champion annually since 1914 (with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19). The historic tournament is conducted on a single-game, knockout basis and is open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and the world’s third-longest continuously run national cup tournament. The 2025 U.S. Open Cup winner will earn $300,000 in prize money, a berth in the 2026 Concacaf Champions League, and have its name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy – one of the oldest nationally contested trophies in American team sports – now on permanent display at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Frisco, Texas. The runner-up will earn $100,000, while the team that advances the furthest from each lower division will take home a $25,000 cash prize. Los Angeles Football Club of MLS is the defending Champion. The 109th edition of the tournament concluded on September 25, 2024, with LAFC beating four-time Champions Sporting Kansas City 3-1 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles to become Open Cup Champions for the first time.
