Loudoun United FC head into Match 34 following a loss at Al Lang Stadium against Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Red-and-White look to get the better of the Battery and finish the season ahead of the Charleston-side, who currently trail by three points.

Loudoun last faced Charleston on May 28 at Segra Field. The match ended in a 1-1 draw with Alexander Dexter being the sole goal scorer for United. After his 25-day contract expired with the Red-and-White, the New York native signed with the Battery for the remainder of the 2022 campaign.

United doubled their win tally from last season and have a chance to finish with nine wins for the first time since their debut season in 2019 (11 wins).

Homegrown Kristian Fletcher received his first MLS start and scored his first MLS goal in the 46th minute for D.C. United.

Homegrown Matai Akinmboni made his second career start for the Black-and-Red this season; he completed 76 minutes. Ted Ku-DiPietro returned to the starting lineup for the first time since July 23rd; he completed 60 minutes.

The Charleston Battery (6-21-6) announced Wednesday the club and Head Coach Conor Casey have mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately. Dennis Sanchez will lead the team for the season finale on Saturday.

The Battery are looking to break their four-game losing streak in front of their home crowd on Saturday. In their last outing, Charleston traveled to face Indy Eleven. Augustine Williams scored in the 4-1 loss to Indy. Williams leads the squad with 16 goals in 31 appearances.

Scouting Report

Head Coach Neill Collins and the Rowdies look to win back-to-back matches following a comeback win in Monterey. The Tampa Bay Rowdies rallied for two goals in the second half of Sunday’s match versus Monterey Bay FC to secure all three points at Cardinale Stadium.

With the win, the Rowdies pull within three points of Memphis 901 FC for second place in the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings.

Following a week of disruption from Hurricane Ian, Tampa Bay cancelled the club’s midweek match versus El Paso Locomotive FC and postponed the trip to Monterey by a day.

Tampa Bay’s Phil Breno made his second start of the season since CJ Cochran suffered an injury. Nicky Law and Laurence Wyke were on the scoresheet for the Rowdies.

Loudoun United FC (LUFC) head into their last home match of the 2022 USL Championship season, following a win and a loss in Week 29.

Loudoun look to put a 1-0 defeat to Indy Eleven behind them. Indy used a second half penalty conversion to capture the win at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.

Goalkeeper Dane Jacomen and D.C. United Academy’s Gavin Turner both earned their first start for the Red-and-White.

The last time United took Segra Field, ‘lethal’ was the best way to describe them. Scoring three goals and recording a shutout, Ryan Martin’s squad put on a show for the gaffer’s 100th match in charge.

D.C. United’s Ted Ku-DiPietro scored the opening goal while Tyler Freeman recorded a brace as a second-half substitute. Skage Simonsen assisted twice in the match, with the Norwegian now holding Loudoun United’s single-season assist record (7).

Following the performance, Loudoun United landed three players on USL Championship Team of the Week – Tyler Freeman, Skage Simonsen and Ted Ku-DiPietro.

Midfielder Jeremy Garay had a sweet homecoming at Audi Field with El Salvador. Garay continues his international duties ahead of the weekend.

Scouting Report

Detroit City FC enters Saturday’s match after earning a point in a four-goal thriller against FC Tulsa in their last outing. Following their 12th draw of the season, Detroit City now travels to Leesburg with a record of 13-12-6.

Yazeed Matthews and Michael Bryant were on the scorecard for Detroit in their last match. Antoine Hoppenot assisted Bryant for the game-tying goal in the 75th minute. Hoppenot recorded his 10th assist of the season, which has him tied for 1st place in the league.

Detroit’s Pato Botello Faz leads the team with eight goals in 28 appearances, while goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher has kept 11 clean sheets, appearing in all 30 matches.

D.C. United’s Ted Ku-DiPietro scored the go-ahead goal. The D.C. United Homegrown finished the match with a goal and an assist. The man of the match created three chances, completed three dribbles and won eight duels. 

Forward Tyler Freeman recorded a brace in less than three minutes, subbing on in the 77th minute.  

Forward Skage Simonsen recorded two assists on the night, his third in two matches. The Norwegian leads the team with seven assists this season, a single-season record for Loudoun United. 

Goalkeeper Luis Zamudio recorded four saves for his seventh shutout of the season, tying the amount of clean sheets LUFC has kept in the last three seasons combined.

Indy Eleven saw its four-game unbeaten streak come to a halt on Saturday, Sept. 17. The Indiana-side were blanked 5-0 by Monterey Bay FC. The defeat, coupled with other results around the conference, officially eliminated Indy Eleven from playoff contention.

In their second meeting of the season, Loudoun United FC (LUFC) blanked Hartford Athletic 3-0 at Segra Field. In front of 2,000+ fans, the Red-and-White had a dominant 90-minute performance for their first win over Hartford in Ryan Martin’s 100th match at the realm.

After a quiet first-half from both sides, LUFC erupted in the second half. In the 50th minute, Ted Ku-DiPietro scored the go-ahead goal. On quick restart, Nicky Downs found Skage Simonsen between the midfield and defensive line. The Norwegian found Ku-DiPietro with a clever flick, who then left his defender in the dust with a quick touch into backspace followed by a tidy finish.

In the 66th minute, Tyler Freeman laced up his boots and went to work. Simonsen recorded his second assist with a back-heel pass to the Kansas native. Loudoun’s leading goal scorer made no mistake in burying his shot into the back of the net.

Freeman’s night had just begun. Less than three minutes later, Ku-DiPietro won a well-timed tackle. The D.C. United Homegrown beat two defenders on the dribble before feeding Freeman onto goal. Freeman calmly finished the ball into the bottom right corner to seal the win for Loudoun United.

Goalkeeper Luis Zamudio recorded four saves on the night for his seventh clean sheet of the season.

Loudoun United FC (LUFC) returns to the DMV after most recently falling to Eastern Conference leaders, Louisville City FC.

Forward Ted Ku-DiPietro recorded a goal and an assist in the hard-fought match. Just before the halftime break, Skage Simonsen turned his defender and slipped the Homegrown in behind the defensive line to find Loudoun’s first of the night. Skage Simonsen now leads the team with five assists in 20 appearances. 

Forward Zoumana Diarra recorded his first Loudoun United goal at Lynn Family Stadium. D.C. United loanee Ku-DiPietro fed the Ivorian behind Louisville’s backline in the 62nd minute for the calm finish into the back of the net.

Homegrown D.C. United midfielder Jeremy Garay has been called up by the El Salvador National Team to face Peru at Audi Field on September 27. Garay has played in 18 matches this season, scoring his first professional goal against Atlanta United II on Aug. 20.

“We couldn’t be happier to return to Segra Field against a solid Hartford team in good form. Once again, the focus is on ourselves and cleaning up mistakes from the previous matches. We look to do a better job of not conceding multiple goals against good teams. I was proud of the team’s performance in the second half of the Louisville match, and we look to collectively start the match on Wednesday with the same intensity.”

Scouting Report

Hartford Athletic return to Segra Field having never lost a match in 11 contests against the Red-and-White. The Connecticut-side looks to stay hot, winning four of their last five matches.

The Green-and-Blue secured the 3-0 victory over Las Vegas on Saturday to keep their winning streak alive. Athletic held a two-goal lead heading into halftime. A goal from Tom Brewitt sealed the shutout win for the home-side.

Hartford and Loudoun last faced each other on May 7 at Trinity Health Stadium, Hartford’s first win of the season. Joel Johnson scored the lone goal in the 41st minute

Hartford Athletic vs. Loudoun United FC – Game Highlights | 05-07-2022

On August 22, Hartford Athletic introduced U.S. Men’s National Team legend and National Soccer Hall of Famer Tab Ramos as Head Coach. Ramos took over duties on September 10th against FC Tulsa. Wednesday’s match will be his third at the realm, winning the last two at home.
