In their fifteenth match of the 2022 United Soccer League Championship Season, Loudoun United defeated Phoenix Rising FC 4-3 at Segra Field.

In the first-ever matchup between Loudoun United FC (LUFC) and Phoenix Rising FC, the red-and-white came out victorious in an all-out shootout. Loudoun and Phoenix combined for 38 shots on the night with nine on target for each side.

Phoenix was first to get on the board as Aodhan Quinn fired his shot into the bottom right corner in the ninth minute of the match. LUFC found their footing in the 32^nd minute from a little individual brilliance as Abdellatif Aboukoura sent defenders the wrong way and finished for his third goal of the season. Michael Gamble recorded his third assist of the season.

Both teams entered the locker room with a goal apiece. The second half started slow until Loudoun United scored in the 58^th minute from no other than the 17-year-old Egyptian international Aboukoura once again. Sami Guediri cleverly slipped Aboukoura in behind the defensive line, who then lifted the ball over Phoenix’s diving goalkeeper from a tight angle.

Just 1 minute and 42 seconds later, Nicky Downs played a one-two combination with Guediri on the top of the box, who then finished a pin-point pass for Loudoun’s third goal of the match.

In the 83^rd minute, Tyler Freeman was a man on a mission as he won a tackle inside the 18-yard box and cut the ball back onto his left foot for his third goal of the season.

Phoenix would then score two late goals in the 90^th and 93^rd minute but Loudoun were able to hold on to the lead.

“I am incredibly proud of the guys to fight back after going a goal down. The resiliency to score four goals against a team like Phoenix is tremendous,” said Head Coach Ryan Martin. “Different guys stepping up in many ways. I’m very proud of their effort and focus this week.”

The Red-and-White are back on the road this Saturday, June 25 against Orange County. The game will be available on ESPN+.

In their fourteenth match of the 2022 United Soccer League Championship Season, Loudoun United fell to Atlanta United 2 on the road.

On a rough Atlanta pitch, Loudoun United held 62% possession on the night with five shots on goal.

The first big chance of the match came in the first five minutes when Sami Guediri’s freekick found the diving head of Grant Lillard. The opportunity went just high of the crossbar.

The first shot on target fell to another defender as Rio Hope-Gund’s header was saved by Atlanta’s goalkeeper.

In the 30^th minute, Atlanta United 2 was awarded a penalty. Raimar finished the penalty decisively. low to the left corner.

Loudoun United were inches away from the equalizer as a dangerous cross was miscleared by an Atlanta defender and bounced off the right post.

Following halftime, Loudoun United began to put on the pressure. The Red-and-White attempted 12 crosses on the night. In the 78^th minute, Carson Vom Steeg found the back of the net, only for the referee to wave it off due to a foul.

Azaad Liadi had Loudoun’s last chance of the match within the 5-yard box, but Atlanta’s goalkeeper was quick to the task with diving save to his right.

The Red-and-White are back at home this Saturday, June 18 against Pheonix Rising FC at Segra Field.

In their thirteenth match of the 2022 United Soccer League Championship Season, Loudoun United defeated New York Red Bulls II 1-0.

After an initial weather delay, the match was kicked off at 8:35 P.M. ET. The starting 11 saw a lot of chances following D.C. United’s Capital Cup over the weekend.

Loudoun United found the first chance of the match when Griffin Yow found space at the top of the box and latched onto a shot that skimmed the crossbar. Just five minutes later, Yow picked up the ball from halftime, dribbled past three defenders and forced a good stop from the Red Bulls’ goalkeeper. 

Off Loudoun’s corner kick opportunity, Adebayo-Smith found himself in space on the counterattack. His right-footed shot was well-saved by the flying right hand of Luis Zamudio.

In the 36^th minute, New York Red Bulls II possibly found their best chance of the match when Adebayo-Smith broke into space for a 1-v-1 with Zamudio. However, the 6’5 goalkeeper read the shot well to save the breakaway opportunity with his left foot.

Just two minutes later, the match saw it’s difference maker. After winning the ball in midfield, Grant Lillard found Abdellatif Aboukoura free in backspace. The Egyptian international cleverly chipped the goalkeeper to score his second professional goal of the season for Loudoun United.

After the break, the match kept it’s intensity. In the 75^th minute, Nicky Downs found a beautiful, weighted pass from Abdoul Zanne at the top of the box. The shot was saved well, recycled and ended with a freekick opportunity right on the edge of the 18-yard box.

Griffin Yow fancied the chance and did well to curl it up and over the wall, however, the Red Bulls’ goalkeeper was up for the task.

In the 89^th minute, D.C. United Academy player Gavin Turner was subbed on to make his professional debut for Loudoun United FC. At just 15 years, 4 months, and 20 days, the midfielder became one of the youngest debutants in Loudoun United history.

In their twelfth match of the 2022 United Soccer League Championship Season, Loudoun United was held to a 1-1 draw by Charleston Battery.

Loudoun United FC hosted Charleston Battery at Segra Field on Saturday night. The match commenced with both sides looking for the early goal. The first chance of the night fell to Jacob Greene as the wingback cut the ball onto his left foot for a curling effort. The shot was well saved by goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky.

In the 30^th minute, Charleston was caught by Loudoun United on the backfoot with a counterattack. With a bit of individual brilliance from Abdoul Zanne, the Ivorian found Skage Simonsen on the top of the 18-yard box for a right-footed shot. The shot was met with a diving stop from Charleston’s goalkeeper once again.

The teams traded blows after they exited the locker room for the second half in search of the all-important first goal of the match. In the 63^rd minute, it was Charleston that found themselves one-on-one with Zamudio. The 6’3 goalkeeper, however, was up for the task as he threw out a strong left-hand effort to keep it a nil-nil game.

Just five minutes later, Charleston had the opportunity for a go-ahead goal from the penalty spot after a foul was given. Charleston’s forward, however, opened his hips and fired the shot well wide of the right post. What seemed to be a wake-up call, gave Loudoun a chance to pounce on the deflated visitors. Just minutes later, Jacob Greene combined with Skage Simonsen, who skillfully back heeled the ball into space. It was the debutant Alexander Dexter who continued his run into the box to finish the shot thunderously into the roof of the net.

The Charleston side began to put on the pressure for an equalizer after the goal. The high pressure led to tempers flaring as a harsh late tackle by Charleston’s Piggott was retaliated with a two-hand shove by Rio Hope-Gund, which ultimately led to a red card and reduced the home-side to 10-men.

In the 94^th minute, Charleston was awarded a corner after a brilliant diving save from Luis Zamudio. The corner then resulted in a Fifa-like scramble inside the penalty box. It was the visitors who took advantage and found their equalizer from an unlikely hero, goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky. The goal was met with protests from the host side looking for a possible foul, but the game-tying goal was given in the 95^th minute.

The Red-and-White are back home to face New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday, June 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 P.M. ET at Segra Field.

In their eleventh match of the 2022 United Soccer League Championship Season, Loudoun United FC fell to Memphis 901 FC 0-3 at Segra Field. The Red-and-White last met the Memphis side in their debut season in 2019.

Loudoun United FC hosted first-place Memphis 901 FC on Sunday. The matchup was originally set to kickoff at 4:00 P.M. but rain and lightning delayed the start of the game by an hour and a half.

Memphis 901 FC had the first chance of the match just under 20 seconds that was met with a foot save from Goalkeeper Joe Rice. Minutes later, the Memphis side took an early lead with a goal from Laurent Kissiedou.

Quick to respond, D.C. United loanee Griffin Yow found himself behind the Memphis backline with a chance. Goalkeeper John Berner was up for the task as he got down quickly to save the shot low to his right side.

Skage Simonsen found himself in an almost identical position as Yow’s chance to be met with a save once again from Berner.

Goalkeeper Joe Rice started his second game of the season and produced a possible save of the week contender in the 17^th minute with a great reaction save on a breakaway.

Loudoun United found a flurry of chances but were unable to convert. It was Memphis 901 FC that found the next goal in the 29^th minute from Jeremy Kelly. Following that goal, Loudoun United held 76.3% possession over the last 15 minutes of the first half.

Both teams entered the locker room and would not exit for the second half until 2 ½ hours later, due to another weather delay.

Head coach Ryan Martin made three substitutions at halftime to put the pressure on the Memphis side. On the slick surface, Loudoun United held possession for most of the second half. It was Memphis’ Phillip Goodrum who scored the next goal in the 55^th minute from a diving header to put the game to bed. 

Frustrations on both sides continued to build as four yellow cards were given in the span of 10 minutes. At 10:00 P.M. ET, the game finally concluded six hours after the original kickoff time.

The Red-and-White are back home to face Charleston Battery on Saturday, May 28th. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 P.M. ET at Segra Field.

In their tenth match of the 2022 United Soccer League Championship Season Loudoun United FC fell to Detroit City FC 2-4 at Keyworth Stadium. The Red-and-White are now 2-7-1. 

Loudoun United FC traveled to Detroit City FC on Saturday night. Prior to Saturday’s match, Loudoun United and Detroit City had never met in the USL Championship.  

The two teams exchanged chances early in the first half, with Loudoun on the front foot with possession. In the 28^th minute, Skage Simonsen found his first-time shot cleared off the line by a Detroit defender after Ted Ku-DiPietro dribbled past three defenders down the left flank. 

Grant Lillard found himself behind the defense from a slip pass by Simonsen just minutes later, but Detroit’s goalkeeper was up for the task. 

After a flurry of chances at one end, Detroit found themselves on the lucky side as Loudoun United scored an own goal in the 35^th minute. Two more goals were to follow in the matter of minutes before the halftime break. 

Kristian Fletcher made his Loudoun United debut in the 46^th minute, subbing in for Hayden Sargis. Detroit City added to their tally with a goal from Maxi Rodriguez early in the second half. Loudoun fought their way back with a Simonsen goal, assisted by Jacob Greene.  

Loudoun continued to press late in the game as Fletcher found his header denied by the goalkeeper with 19 minutes to go. Grant Lillard found the net after a cross by Ted Ku-DiPietro in stoppage time, but it was too late for the visitors. 

The Red-and-White are back home to face Memphis 901 FC on Sunday, May 22^nd for ‘Pups at the Pitch’ night. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:45 P.M. ET at Segra Field.
